of 'Coping with loosing your job'.

Exiting Successfully
- Huge Shock (angry,
confused, worried, embarrassed)
- One Thing you have
control over – your response
- How you respond can
affect your relationship with former employer – and the support
you’re able to get during this transition
- You don’t have much
control over situation – you do have control over yourself – you
can choose to deal with it, to try act rather than react
- People often have
little time to make decisions & that can compound the stress
- Think about what you
might need during your transitional period while you’re looking for
another position.
- If you are offered a
severence package review it before signing it – you may be able to
negotiate benefits with your employer before you leave
- Longer Tranisitional
period – with the understanding you’re beginning the process of
disengaging
- Allow u use of the
office (unpaid capacity) for a certain period of time
- Permission to apply
for other positions in the organisation, or consulting opps or
temporary assignments
- A reference
- Use of Office
equipment while u look 4 a job
- Outplacement services
- Info on stock options
if they apply
- Ensure that therre is
no break in your health insurance.
- Get the relevant
Paperwork on your VHI or Bupa insurance. Also life insurance or
anything else you had as an employee can theybe converted into
individual policies?
- Though this is an
awkward time for you and your former colleagues, remember that with
time and a well planned strategy you’ll be working again
- Also you’re not
alone! Other people have successfully made the transition to a new
position – u can too!
Immediate Concerns
- Looking for work can
seem like an intimidating process for most people – when suddenly
lost a job is even harder.
- In many ways you’re
ahead of the curve.
- How you view and
approach this transition can affect your success rate at finding
another job – the right job for you.
- Use this transition
period to your advantage – it can be a time of discovery that opens
up new doors and maybe even an entirely different career path for you
- Do a Self Evaluation:
Maximise this time focussing on what you liked and disliked about your
former position, take time to identify what benefits you’d like from
a job and find the tools and resources you need for the job hunting
process
- With a smart strategy
you’ll be well on your way to finding the job that’s right for you
- Look at your finances
– defer any unnecessary expenses
Take a mortgage ‘holiday’
- Brainstorm with your
family on money saving tips
- Establish a new set of
routines & rythms
- Set goals &
schedules for various aspects of your job search
- Even small things
provide you with a sense of accomplishment
- Get help if you need
it – talk to a trusted friend, a business coach etc
- You may need to update
your CV – and adjust it to fit a job you’re going for interview
- Be Proactive in the
interview
- By choosing some
lifestyle and attitude adjustments you’ll be well on your way to
finding a job
